The Lady of Shalott

Graphite and Embroidery
Ø 21,25 inches

Lady-of-Shalott-Adeline-Martin-BD RVB logo

This illustration was presented in the Château de Comper (Brittany, France)
for the exhibition “Nouveaux Visages de la Demoiselle d’Astolat” in 2017.
It is still currently exhibited in the castle.

I invite you to read the story of this character from the Arthurian legend that inspired
me as much by its tragic beauty as by the intervention of the tapestry.

The original drawing is sold but this illustration
is available as limited edition art prints in my Etsy shop.

« And down the river’s dim expanse
Like some bold seër in a trance,
Seeing all his own mischance—
With a glassy countenance
Did she look to Camelot.

And at the closing of the day
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott. »

Lord Alfred Tennyson, The Lady of Shalott
